In honor of Thanksgiving, here are five travel-related things I’m thankful for this year:

1. Getting to fulfill a lifelong dream by going to the Olympics.
2. While on a weeklong road trip, having the air pressure in my tire go out just moments before passing the last gas station available for miles and miles — which, although not fun, was at least pretty good timing.
3. Seeing five countries I’d never been to before.
4. Having the chance to spend a week in the warm and sunny Caribbean right before the worst November storm in 20-plus years hit my town.
5. Not accidentally looking into the eye of a hidden person while in Iceland and thus going insane.
