About Me

**Visit my website at www.haleyshapley.com for information about my writing and editing services.**

I’m a travel writer who, um, loves to travel. Shocking, right? Maybe it started with my adoration for the TV show Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? Whatever the case, I get out and about often but still have a million places I need to see. I’ve written for outlets including American Way (the in-flight magazine of American Airlines), Away.com, Four Seasons Magazine, Journey (AAA Washington), Group Travel Planet, Texas Journey (AAA Texas), VacationPlanning.net, and a host of others.

Even though I write for a living, I’m not a full-time traveler — I fit in trips when I can, just like most of the general population. And I like to mix it up. Sometimes I stay in hostels, and sometimes I have more posh accommodations. Sometimes I book a tour, and sometimes I explore on my own. Most of all, I like to have a wide range of experiences: This isn’t the blog of a backpacker or a luxury travel writer or a foodie — I’m all of those things at one time or another, but never exclusively one. Specializing is certainly the best way to become an expert on a topic, but I have way too many interests to choose one thing.

And so my goal is just to see and do as much as I can, both at home and abroad. I hope you’ll follow along as I try to see each U.S. state and at least 25 percent of the world’s countries. I’m always up for suggestions on where to go next — if you’ve got one or just want to get in touch, you can reach me at haley@haleyshapley.com or on Twitter.

(And a disclaimer: 99 percent — probably even more — of my travel is self-funded. On occasion, I accept things like a tour or a ticket to a show, in the interest of being able to experience more than my budget would allow. However, I never promise any kind of coverage, let alone positive coverage.)
